Eliza Leslie was born in 1787 in Philadelphia. In 1828 she published her first work, one of the first american cookbooks, “Receipts for Pastry, Cakes, and Sweetmeats” published with a name by a lady in philadelphia, so already so early in her career she had lost her identity. She began to publish more books including children`s books and women`s magazines and was encouraged to publish using her real name. In 1831 she introduced herself as “miss Leslie”, still hiding who she truly was. After that miss leslie came out with numerous books on house keeping and child care and cooking books.While miss leslie grew ever more popular and well known Eliza was lost.
Between 1828 and 1857 Eliza Leslie published nine cookbooks.
