Eliza Leslie was born in 1787 in Philadelphia. In 1828 she published her first work, one of the first american cookbooks, “Receipts for Pastry, Cakes, and Sweetmeats” published with a name by a lady in philadelphia, so already so early in her career she had lost her identity. relating the count and the cousin to Lucy Nelson or, The Boy Girl

The cousin is seen as a uneducated woman who does what woman were supposed to do, and is good at it, to just sit there and look pretty. Throughout the story she is the love sick puppy totally infatuated with this foreign statue of perfection. Only to find that he was not everything he was said to be.in the other story Lucy Nelson starts off being the girl she wanted to be, although its notaccepted by society and even her family. she was what is known as a "tomboy" Instead of watching her sisters as role models she looked at them as something she didnt want to be. She accompanied her brothers when they went skating and when they went outside to play. To punish her later in the story she had to wear boys clothers for a whole month. At first Lucy didnt see this as a punishment but a privilege later she found that is was embarrasing and from then on she was lucy nelson no longer the Boy girl but just a girl. Although she changed her clothes i feel as if she wasnt like the cousin. it seems as if she had a mind of her own and wasnt not easily manipulated. these characters have many more differences than similarities.

Prediction for the ending of the Count and the Cousin
I predict that Adelaid will end up with the count even though he is not American. A story like this ends up having a moral where you dont choose who you end up loving, love chooses you. The Count was not American but still the love of Adelaids life.
while searching for inormation about Sarah Louisa Forten, I found that she is not a lost voice but definately a voice that is not heard as often as others. There were two websites on google that both led to a site that shared information about the Society for the Study of American Women Writers. On this website and can view other works creates by Sarah such as a poem called Past Joys, and others. When reading her few poems that were posted i feel like thre is a theme to them. I feel as if the theme is Slavery. not only the term of actual slavery but slavery with racism also. her point comes across well with her pieces. her voice is strong and passionate. The other thing i noticed is i feel as if they have a lot of rhythm with these words and they sound like lyrics and well as poems.
When i looked for web sites of Emma Lazarus there was much more to choose from. There are similarities between this Emma Lazarus and Sarah Louis Forten as writers. They both have some what of a theme in their poetry as well as have strong voices to back their opinions up. Emma writes about anti-semitism and how it has effected her personally and others.

The Rough Faced Girl- a Journal entry from the handsome invisible being.

The days seem to be getting longer as I live everyday lonely and in search for my wife. Although I don’t know who she is I feel she is out there somewhere. My sister has always been there for me watching and testing the many women that come to our wigwam in search for me. I just wish the time would come for me to find my true love and live happily ever after. Where is that person that I am visible too, the one that sees my beauty just how entrancing I am. Its as if i send out many morse codes yet no one hears my cries for help. i am stuck within a horrible nightmare and the woman that i will love awakes me with her eternal kiss.

A poem on the “Sheriff’s Children”

As the thoughts dwindle in my mind

I find that there is not enough time.

My decision should be Clear and straight

But it’s something I just can’t make.

Although he is my son

I am not happy with what he has done

Should I be the one that ends his life?

Could I live with that and survive

The absence of him could make me stronger

But could I endure how much longer

So the question at hand slowly becomes

Should I be the one to tighten the knot?

The Sheriffs Children was an interesting reading. It started off slow, as warned and then had a winding plot that surprised you as well as entertained you in till the end. The sheriff is a character with many problems. In the beginning you feel as if he is a stable man with a lot of pride in his work and himself. As the story progresses it changes to a large struggle with his own pride in duty and his own child’s life. Now this decision should be easy for anyone, if your child’s life is on the line do you really want to be the one that kills them, I think not. For the sheriff it is shown that he is educated far more than many people in the lonely town, as well as respected by others in the community. When he leaves to go to the jail he is told not to. He responds with, “Who would shoot me?” That shows that he is not afraid of people in the town because of his rank in society. Although he is between a rock and a hard place it may be tough to be who he is. So much weight on his shoulders so many people that care and respect him. Everyone seems to watch his steps as well as his decision overall. He struggles very much with this situation and as much as his character puts on a hero role, he is anything but. He is not the hero of the story he is merely the character in the story you wish gets hit by a bus. So I guess he is needed because who else could annoy you that much and keep you reading the story.
